Rhythm of Tides, the third in a trilogy of short films that address issues of dislocation, loss and memory. The trilogy is a personal response to the current conditions in Nikpay's country of Iran, and part of a larger body of work of both film and photography. Rhythm of Tides will be a cinematic essay, halfway between narrative and metaphor. Nikpay will combine visual imagery, sound-design, and minimal voice-over into a dense poetic film.

"Two decades from now, when we look back on this modest notice for a small cabaret show, we may well be asking ourselves how Hoptman ended up as the center square in the German version of Hollywood Squares--but for now we can enjoy watching his star, still at the very beginning of its ascent." --City Pages
"His is a sincerely odd likability, and his gentle, intellectual streak mixes pleasantly with an underlying mischievousness... Hoptman's show makes for a decidedly odd and pleasurable Thursday night out." --St Paul Pioneer Press

Currently in production, this documentary centers on a shocking collection of dollhouse crime scenes used to train homicide detectives. This documentary explores the woman who created them, our collective fascination with forensics, and the stories we like to tell ourselves about death. This film will be anything but predictable, even quirky, humorous and shocking while revealing our odd relationship with death, our need for mythical death storytelling (i.e. crime television) and the reality that murderers usually know their victims. Legendary filmmaker John Waters will narrate this 2008 release.
