Who Are We?
We’re Nigel and Lao, co-founders of mayamada and The StoryBoard.
mayamada is a manga brand set in our own television network universe in which the story of each show is told through beautifully illustrated, and not too shabbily written manga-style comics.
We have since gone on to establish our own industry recognised video game event called GamePad, and this workshop programme called The StoryBoard. We believe in community, inclusion, and giving everyone the opportunity to express their creative selves.

Our Creative Vision
Our creative journey began as kids drawing and creating characters. The mayamada brand was born out of a passion for storytelling and creativity, as well as support from family, friends and organisations like The Prince’s Trust.
But while our journey has allowed us to create something, we’ve seen many young people miss their opportunity due to a lack of support and confidence.
We’ve seen first hand the impact a lack of creative support can have on young people. This is something we are determined to change and are working to see the creative confidence in all children unlocked, no matter their background.
Where Does The Money Come From?
We are booked to deliver talks and comic story workshops sessions in schools, libraries and youth hubs across London. The profits from sessions are reinvested to develop the workshops we deliver.
We also receive grant funding that enables us to do long term projects. For example, we delivered a series of workshops between January and March 2019 in Lambeth and Lewisham as a result of Culture Seeds grant funding.
Funding like this allows us to invest in materials and equipment that we are able to reuse in subsequent sessions to the benefit of more young people.
And we also invest profits from our business into delivering sessions where possible. We create manga-style comics and merchandise based on the characters within our own universe – check them out!

You can also purchase any of the manga books from our unique universe of characters. Get a copy for yourself or give the gift of reading to a young person close to you.
We can also be commissioned to create a custom manga story for your organisation. We created stories for organisations like Social Ark and MyBnk, telling their story through the mayamada universe. For each custom story, we produce, we will deliver a workshop to a youth organisation of your choice for free.
