The StoryBoard Online Workshops

Sometimes it’s good to stop and look back at the progress you’ve made. Earlier this year, we looked back at the year 2019, which was a really good year for our workshop programme, The StoryBoard.

It was the year we finished delivery of a workshop project at Pop Brixton, funded by the Mayor of London’s Culture Seeds initiative. The start of a year that ended with a workshop project delivered at Youth First in Lewisham. This one funded by BBC Children in Need and delivered alongside Urban MBA.

We also had a lot of fun running sessions throughout the year. Those included being part of the Summer Reading Challenge, Uniqlo’s Manga UT launch, plus many schools and libraries across London.

We’ve delivered over 150 sessions engaged with over 1000 young people since launching in 2016. This has meant supporting the next generation of creatives to engage their imaginations through the comic storytelling medium.

But 2020 has been a different story, to say the least…

It’s remarkable how quickly things can change. While many of us were aware of the spread of coronavirus in some parts of the world early in 2020, not many truly appreciated the effect the pandemic would eventually have on all aspects of our lives!

This post is being written while on week 57 of lockdown…at least that’s what it feels like! But what is for sure is that the world has changed and plans scrapped for the foreseeable future.

A government ordered closure of schools across England, and some measure of social distancing for months to come have caused disruption to so many young people and families up and down the country.

New Online Workshop Delivery

Here in the UK young people are facing an uncertain summer with so many activities postponed or outright cancelled. But we believe all young people should still be able to access opportunities to engage with and develop their creativity. In this period of self-isolation, it’s perhaps even more important to give them that ability to express themselves in fun ways.

So we’re excited to announce the launch of our online workshop programme. The StoryBoard Online is a virtual workshop programme that allows young people to unlock and develop their creative potential, wherever they are. You’re welcome to download and share our programme brochure (Google Drive Link).

We hope to continue working with any youth organisation who still wishes to engage with young people this year. Our mission hasn’t changed and we look forward to making progress in our goal of delivering more Comic Story Workshops and working with more imaginative young people this year!
